In addition to the well-known Star Seller badge, Etsy has started testing a new “Top Buyer” designation that identifies the highest-spending customers across the platform. Early reports show that this badge applies to roughly the top 15% of U.S. buyers based on their total spending over the last year, and sellers are encouraged to “prioritize” messages from these shoppers. This marks a significant shift in how Etsy recognizes buyer behavior and how the platform hopes to strengthen customer loyalty.

Along with this new badge, Etsy has also updated its buyer-loyalty program, Etsy Insider. Originally launched with perks like free U.S. shipping on many items, the program went through a major revision in late 2025. Insider members now earn 5% back in Etsy credit on all purchases, receive up to $6 in covered domestic shipping on qualifying orders, and continue to enjoy personalized offers, early-access opportunities, and a limited-edition annual gift created by an Etsy seller. These benefits are designed to make shopping more rewarding and to keep frequent buyers active on the platform.

For shoppers, these updates mean more recognition and tangible rewards, plus potentially faster communication from sellers—especially when using the Top Buyer badge. This shift creates interesting new dynamics. High-spending buyers may become easier to convert, and Etsy’s credit-back model may encourage those customers to return more often.

Still, the program is evolving. The Top Buyer badge is in limited testing, and Etsy has already shown its willingness to adjust perks in response to buyer behavior and platform needs.
